Akamai surges after signing an $11.6 billion cloud deal with Anthropic

The deal instantly reframed Akamai as a meaningful AI-infrastructure supplier and sent the stock up more than 20%.

Akamai Technologies jumped sharply after announcing a seven-year, $11.6 billion cloud-services agreement with Anthropic. The contract could expand by another $9 billion, and Akamai also granted Anthropic a warrant that could convert into as much as a 5% stake.

Shares surged more than 20% in extended trading after the announcement.

Why it moved

The contract is enormous relative to Akamai's existing cloud business and gives the company a long-duration commitment from one of the fastest-growing AI labs. Investors also reacted to the possibility that Anthropic could become a meaningful shareholder.
